Wigmore so far... Initial rece trip was conducted before I headed off to the Dachstein. On the Sunday after Greg's stag do and the BEC BBQ we had a quick trip to rig the cave and drop of my cylinders for diving. Thanks to Bruce, Fiona and Rich Beer. This went very well, particularly as the Wessex had been down the day before and left it rigged for us. My only hope is that we are able to leave this kit in place for a few weeks, as if I have to swap it out then there wasn't much point it being left in! On Saturday 18th (before Greg's wedding reception) Rich Bayfield and I made a quick trip down so that I could dive the first few sumps. This went very well and the vis was surprisingly good. I made it to the start of five (the rubic sump and thought it prudent to retreat here as I'd rather have company before attempting this sump. At the beginning of sump 2 on the way in I'd notices two lines. On the way back I solved this mystery by unearthing the original reel which was used to pass sump one, from its resting place a quarter of the way into two. From his description of 'self belaying' line I recognised this as Dany Bradshaws original line reel! Also to my amazement the vis in the first sump had pretty much cleared by the time I was going back through to dive base. Whilst I'd been gone Rich had been kept busy sorting out some old line and I'd been gone such a short while he'd hardly noticed and was still busy wrapping it around a rock. |

Iolanthe - 45m Wreck Dive out of Swanage on the Smooth Hound. It took almost an hour and a half to reach the dive site, going at a fair pace. I dived with EANX 25% in by back mounts, EANX 50% and EANX 80% for deco gas.
After dropping down the shot line Alex had the job of raising the anchor line whilst I waited. Due to some confusion John managed to end up buddied with us instead of Gary. After a short swim around John (just on a 15ltr) had to ascend and after jamming his reel and fiddling around for a bit went on Alex's long hose so we all aborted. During the ascent I became separated from the others and completed my deco on my own. Getting out of the water after 46 minutes for a pleasent ride back to Swanage.

Open Water Tec Training at Gildenburgh: I completed 5 dives over the two days in my tec kit, complete with two stages and practiced shut downs, NOTOX switches and lot and lots and lots of hovering and bouyancy!! Gary Lilley was by training partner and we both found this a very useful two days of preparation for the deep swanage dive due on the 17th of August. |

Open water diving from Swange pier onboard the 'Swange Diver'. Two dives each day, drift and wreck. A good opportunity for me to try out my twin set in the openwater. Only spolied by my drysuit developing a hole in the next seal - making my dives a bit damper than usual!! Gorgeous weather though and good people made it an excellent weekend overall! |

23rd-24th June: Shannon Another trip over the Ireland for more digging. Looking good now we cleared some of the previous rubble away. Bit of surveying as well. Will know more after the next trip down. 30th-1st July: Wigmore It was supposed to be the BEC vs Wessex Cricket match but rain destroyed any chance of this happening. I didn't mind this too much as actually I had plans for Wigmore. A good rece trip to suss out the pitches, check dive base and pull out some of the old junk down there - inlcuding an old dive knife belonging to Tony Jarrett! Followed up with a trip through the Sidcot U-tube on Sunday. |

June 2nd-3rd: Open Water diving at Gildenburg: I had four students for my first open water course at Gildenburgh near Peterborough. Considering the vis was pretty poor I thought it went pretty well. I had Kev to lend a hand with dive logisitcs on Saturday and then also got Pete Moore on Sunday in the water over seeing students whilst I was off doing things like the CESA etc...
June 9th-10th: CDG Training Camp Most of the CDG converged on Mendip for the most recent CDG training camp. The weekend was based at the Wessex and the place was absolutely heaving! On Saturday morning my group went over some problem solving techniques which consisted of talking through issues and techniques as well as crawling around the lawn with a blind fold and search reel!! This was whilst another group did line laying in a dry cave - Avelines hole. Then we went off to Wookey for an afternoon dive whilst the other group went to Vobster.... |
