Saturday 2nd of September - Vicarage Pot & North West Stream passage:
Andy Kyzyk, Rich Beer, Duncan Butler and myself went down Swildons to have a look as some of the less popular parts. Vicarage pot can be found at the end of Vicarage passage, about 75m from where the route to the landing joins the passge. A ladder takes you down the pot and large iron spikes take you up the other side. There is a bit of a scramble and then a slope to head up, with a hole to traverse over. Above this is a small chamber at the bottom of which a slippery tube exits. This heads up to steeply to another chamber with approx a 3m climb to the floor (there are several options). From here you can follow the large passage to see a dig or drop down through a hole in the floor. The hole leads to a 'boulder filled rift' - which didn't have many boulders in it. Then a wet squeeze before a drop ...

...down into a chamber. From here it gets too tight but a window on the right (as you go down) leads into a tight tube heading up. This supposedly links with the sloping chamber with hole in, however I found it too tight to get through.

We retreated from here and headed off to do the North West Stream Passage. This is entered through a crawl on the left just before Vicarage Pot. "Wet Ears" squeeze is next, before reaching a traverse at the top of a pitch. This needs a 10m ladder really despite what the book says. If you had an eight meter one (which we did - and tried using it first) you'd need to extend the ladder by 1 or 1.5m from the bolt which might make it difficult to get on and off. A wire trace is also useful for backing up the bolt (there is a thread on the right with a small hole).

A the bottom of the ladder we headed down the slope and then followed the stream up-stream. You do this on a raised section of rock whilst the stream is in a trench on the right. After a while the stream goes off the right whilst the passage continues. Here we dropped down to the stream and followed it through a duck and then along 120m of nice passge to two sumps which are at the bottom or shafts heading left.

Back where the stream veers off the higher dry passage becomes a low crawl through a triangular passage. At first dry, a short section of large passage is reached before more triangular passage - this time half full of water. This is the 'Heaven and Hell' passage. At the end we entered a chamber and turned left. A 8m climb up followed by a 6m climb down reaches a sump/dig.

Overall an excellent trip to do and I really enjoyed caving with the other BEC boys. It was also fun meeting loads of people I knew in Swildons.

Sunday 3rd September: Dallimores
Having never been down Dallimores I fancied having a quick look. There isn't alot there if you don't do the oxford extensions - and we didn't! We did have fun getting out of one dig though - on the right hand side in the large chamber, where it slopes down.
