Saturday 30th:  We met at the Wessex at 9.30am before heading down to Avelines hole for some 'dry' line laying practice. Working in teams of two we put about five or six lines through the cave and discussed the various different options for belaying such as silt screws (also as stemples), different snoopy loops, wraps and chock stones.

Then we headed off to Vobster Quay for some actual line laying underwater. Marcus Crabbe (Derbyshire section) went underwater with me to check my line and give me a few pointers. I quickly learnt not to let go of the line reel (Marcus scrawled "ALWAYS" on my wrist slate after the second time it floated away!)

At the end I was underwater for about an hour and laid out all 100m of line on the reel. I then followed it ....

...back whilst Marcus assessed each of the belays. Finally I reeled the line in before we surfaced. Determined to get the most out of my entry fee to the site I went for another dive a bit later with Malcolm Foyles 15ltr bottles.

Sunday 1st Oct: The day started at the Wessex at 10am with a session on gas management by Andy Judd. Then it was off to Wookey for a dive. Greg Brock and I dived through to chamber 20 where we got out for a wander. The water was crystal clear on the way in and pretty warm at 12 degrees. We were both in wetsuits as we wanted to get out at 20 but we were perfectly warm.

We had a look around the spacious chamber 20 and went a short distance up the passage leading off before returning through the sump. The vis by now wasn't as good and Greg's underwater photos didn't come out despite our best efforts.
